Sahara Group will convene policymakers, business executives, investors, academics and media professionals on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, for the third edition of Asharami Square, its flagship thought leadership platform aimed at shaping the future of Africa’s energy sector.
The event, scheduled to hold at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, is themed “Energising Africa’s Future: Legacy, Impact, and Transformation.” It comes at a time when African economies are balancing the need to expand electricity access, attract private capital and pursue cleaner energy solutions without compromising economic growth.
Building on the momentum of previous editions since its launch in 2024, Asharami Square 3.0 will focus on how stronger collaboration among governments, regulators, financial institutions, industry operators and the media can accelerate investment, modernise energy infrastructure and improve access to reliable power across the continent.
The conference will feature a keynote address by Sadiq Wanka, Special Adviser to the President on Power Infrastructure, who is expected to provide insights into Nigeria’s evolving power sector and infrastructure priorities.
A high-level panel discussion will also bring together leading voices from academia, regulation, finance and energy markets. Panellists include Professor Abigail Ndisika, Director of the Institute of Continuing Education at the University of Lagos, Temitope George, Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), Adebiyi Olusolape, Associate Editor, Africa at Argus Media and Kemi Awodein, Managing Director of Investment Banking at Chapel Hill Denham.
A major highlight of this year’s programme will be the unveiling of the judging panel for the Asharami Square Energy Reporting Fellowship, an initiative designed to strengthen energy journalism across Africa. The fellowship provides up to $5,000 in funding, mentorship and access to industry experts, supporting journalists in producing high-quality reporting on the continent’s evolving energy landscape.
Speaking ahead of the event, Sahara Group’s Head of Corporate Communications, Bethel Obioma, said Africa’s energy future would depend on effective partnerships and the ability to translate dialogue into practical action. He noted that Asharami Square continues to serve as a platform for informed discussions capable of influencing policy, investment and long-term development.
Similarly, Ejiro Gray, Director of Governance and Sustainability at Sahara Group, said Africa’s energy transition must reflect the continent’s unique economic and developmental realities. She stressed the importance of evidence-based conversations that bridge technical expertise with public understanding.
As governments and private investors seek sustainable pathways to close Africa’s energy access gap, initiatives such as Asharami Square are expected to foster dialogue, encourage investment and support policies that strengthen the continent’s long-term energy security and economic competitiveness.
