The Federal Government has restated its strong commitment to reducing poverty and expanding economic opportunities aimed at improving the living conditions of Nigerians, with a particular focus on rural communities where access to support is often limited.
This assurance was given on Sunday in Kano by the National Programme Manager of the Renewed Hope Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (RH-GEEP) 3.0 FarmerMoni for both dry and wet seasons, Hamza Ibrahim-Baba, during a media sensitisation session held for the North-West zone. He explained that the initiative forms a key part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which is designed to empower micro and small-scale businesses across the country and strengthen grassroots economic activities.“GEEP 3.0 is designed to reach underserved communities and stimulate economic growth from the grassroots.
“Our goal is to support Nigerians at the bottom of the economic pyramid, improve their livelihoods, and create opportunities for sustainable income,” he said. Ibrahim-Baba further noted that the programme was structured to ensure that economic empowerment reaches people who are often excluded from formal financial systems. He emphasized that supporting small traders, artisans, and rural farmers would help strengthen local economies and reduce poverty levels over time.
In a related development, the Director-General of the Kano Social Protection Agency, Fatima Abubakar-Abdullahi, highlighted that the programme is specifically targeted at vulnerable groups, especially individuals living in rural and underserved areas who struggle to access financial assistance. She explained that the initiative would provide beneficiaries with interest-free loans as well as training and capacity-building opportunities to improve their business skills and productivity.
According to her, one of the major challenges facing the programme is limited awareness among potential beneficiaries, many of whom are yet to understand how to access and benefit from the scheme. “Sensitisation like this is critical. When people understand how the programme works, participation increases, and the impact becomes more meaningful,” she said. She added that continuous outreach and engagement would be essential in ensuring that more eligible Nigerians are reached and fully integrated into the empowerment programme. The agency, she said, remains committed to working with stakeholders to ensure that the benefits of RH-GEEP 3.0 are widely felt across communities in Kano and beyond.
The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to job creation, improved livelihoods, and broader economic inclusion across Nigeria.
