President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new appointments affecting two key government institutions, reinforcing his administration’s ongoing restructuring of public agencies.
In a recent announcement, the President named Senator Ibrahim Ida as Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), placing him at the helm of the agency responsible for business registration and regulation in Nigeria. The appointment reflects a continuation of efforts to strengthen institutional leadership across critical sectors of the economy.
Ibrahim Ida brings a blend of administrative, financial, and legislative experience to the role. He previously served as Commissioner of Finance in Katsina State and rose through the ranks of the federal civil service to become a Permanent Secretary. His political career also includes representing Katsina Central in the Senate after his election in 2017. His academic background spans banking, finance, and law, positioning him for the demands of overseeing corporate governance and compliance.
Alongside this appointment, Tinubu also nominated seven individuals to serve as Federal Commissioners in the National Population Commission (NPC), an agency tasked with collecting and managing demographic data in Nigeria. These nominations are intended to fill existing vacancies and strengthen the commission’s operational capacity.
The nominees include Kolawole Oladipupo Alabi for Ekiti State, Nasiru Mu’azu for Zamfara State, Usman Abubakar Tuggar for Bauchi State, Dr Isaka Alada Yahaya for Kwara State, Professor Sadiq Isah Radda for Katsina State, Suleiman Umar for Jigawa State, and Hon. Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo for Sokoto State. Each nominee is expected to represent their respective states within the commission, contributing to national data planning and policy formulation.
As with similar federal appointments, these nominations will be subject to confirmation by the National Assembly before they take full effect.
In addition to the CAC and NPC changes, the President also approved other key appointments. Dr Yusuf Mohammed from Kano State was named Chairman of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo, while Bala Mohammed Bello was confirmed as Special Adviser on Political Economy.
Bello, who hails from Taraba State, has a strong background in finance and public administration. Before this role, he served as a Deputy Governor at the Central Bank of Nigeria and previously held the position of Executive Director of Corporate Services at the Nigerian Export Import Bank between 2017 and 2022. His appointment signals a continued emphasis on economic advisory within the presidency.
Speaking on the appointments, the presidency expressed confidence in the capabilities of the new appointees. According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, “President Tinubu strongly believes in the capacities of the appointees to put in their best to further the administration’s commitment to a better lease of life for Nigerians.”
The latest round of appointments underscores the administration’s focus on reinforcing governance structures, improving institutional effectiveness, and aligning leadership with its broader economic and development agenda.
