The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the death of 12 people following a violent attack by gunmen in the Angwan Rukuba community of Jos North Local Government Area. In a formal statement released on Monday, March 30, 2026, the command’s spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, detailed that the victims—comprising ten men and two women were killed during the late-night assault on Sunday.

The structural and security consequence of this incident triggered an immediate high-level response from state authorities. Upon receiving distress calls at approximately 8:30 p.m. on March 29, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, personally led a multi-agency team of tactical commanders, DPOs, and PMF squadron officers to the scene. While ten bodies were initially recovered, two additional corpses were discovered on Monday morning as security forces intensified their search in the surrounding bushes.

Analytically, the impact on “Joint Security Operations and Suspect Apprehension” remains the primary focus of the command. Police units, in collaboration with other security agencies, have launched a massive manhunt to dislodge the perpetrators. The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations has been tasked with leading the deployment of additional manpower and operational assets to the Angwan Rukuba axis to prevent any retaliatory violence or further breakdown of law and order.

The impact on “Community Grief and Investigative Transparency” was underscored by CP Ewah’s message of condolence to the bereaved families and the Plateau State Government. Although the identities of all victims are still being verified, the bodies have been evacuated to a mortuary for autopsy. The police have also released several emergency hotlines, urging citizens to provide any accurate information that could lead to the arrest of the “dastardly” actors behind the massacre.

Furthermore, the deployment of tactical teams within the Jos metropolis is intended to restore calm and reassure residents of their safety. This attack adds to the complex security challenges in the region, highlighting the persistent threat of armed groups operating in the hinterlands of Jos North.

The long-term outlook for stability in Angwan Rukuba depends on the success of the ongoing “combing” operations and the ability of the police to transition from reactive patrols to a sustained intelligence-led presence. As of Monday afternoon, security forces remain on high alert, with investigations officially underway to ensure that justice is served for the 12 lives lost.
