Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has relaunched the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, aiming to promote public health, flood control, and sustainable urban development.
The initiative, suspended a decade ago due to a court order, will now take place every last Saturday of the month, between 6:30 am and 8:30 am, without movement restrictions.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of civic responsibility, urging residents to maintain cleanliness and avoid littering. He stressed that a clean city depends on both government systems and residents’ discipline.
The government plans to strengthen waste management, improve drainage infrastructure, and support environmental enforcement.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, highlighted the need for collective action, stating that environmental sanitation is a global best practice.
This initiative is expected to boost Lagos’ economic growth by attracting investments, improving public health, and enhancing the city’s reputation.
